Dr Andrew Sefton is an Australian trained orthopaedic surgeon.  He holds fellowships with the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) and the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (RACS).

Andrew enjoys all aspects of orthopaedic surgery and has a passion for getting people back to the activities they love doing. In particular, he enjoys and has extensive training and experience in lower limb operations and orthopaedic trauma more generally. He is a patient-centred, thorough and compassionate surgeon.

Andrew has completed two additional sub-specialty years of training to further develop his skills. He completed a lower limb arthroplasty (joint replacement) fellowship at McMasters University in North America where he refined his skills in hip arthroplasty, knee arthroplasty and revision arthroplasty. He also completed a trauma and arthroplasty fellowship at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney where he augmented his skills in more challenging orthopaedic traumas including pelvic reconstruction, non union, bone loss, malunion and deformity correction.

Andrew has also cultivated interests in robotic surgery, arthroscopy, management of sports injuries, joint preservation technology and analgesia.

He performs arthroscopic surgeries including cartilage and ligament reconstructions of the knee. This includes . anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL reconstruction), posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (PCL reconstruction), postero-lateral corner reconstruction (PLC reconstruction), meniscus repairs and management of other cartilage injuries). He can also advise and perform joint injections such as hyaluronic acid, platelet rich plasma (PRP) and corticosteroids.

In addition to his surgical skills, Andrew has a commitment to orthopaedic surgical education. He is currently designing and co-ordinating the orthopaedic syllabus for the University of Sydney’s Masters of Surgery. He has a Graduate Certificate and Diploma of surgical education from the University of Melbourne. Andrew is also a member of several committees and panels. These include: the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) National Ethics committee, the National Opioid Analgesic Stewardship Program, and he is co-chair of the NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) Hip Fracture Leading Better Value Care(LBVC) Clinical Advisory Group (CAG).

Andrew practises in both Sydney and the Dubbo/ Central West region and he enjoys the mix of rural and urban orthopaedics. He grew up in the Central West of NSW and is grateful that he is able to provide a service for the region.

Andrew enjoys a hybrid practice of rural and urban orthopaedics, working both in the region near Dubbo where he grew up, and in Central and urban Sydney.   This range of work affords Andrew insights into a wide variety of health systems.

Andrew also enjoys spending time with his family. He has a wife, Dayna, who is a GP in Sydney, and 4 young children and they all love camping, hiking and swimming at the beach.
